Lazy bum.

What has happened to my rambunctious feline friend?
He used to wrestle the flowers in the apartment.
He used to high five me from under the bathroom door.
He used to run underneath the bed and taunt me from the distance.
Yet today, he is just a lazy bum.

I'm hoping this is just a phase because I have way too much energy to handle.

Gatsby found a new hiding spot

There's a phrase I heard once, jokingly, in high school, "save water, shower with a friend."

Last night when I went to turn on the shower, I was shocked to see Gatsby living up to this quote.
There he was, paws wet, looking at me in awe. Luckily, I saw him before the torrential downpour so he wasn't too soaked.

"What is this magical contraption that spills out water?" He may have thought, or, "I'm just sitting here minding my own business and you intend to torment me with water?"

Now I know to check for my shower buddy before I shower myself.

Cockroach, you won't get away this time!

We're saying good bye to pest control and tossing out the cockroach traps.
Gatsby is now the master bug catcher.
I'm not sure where his talent arose, yet he didn't learn from us!

The roach came from the kitchen.
I saw it from the corner of my eye crawl out of its hiding spot.
Gatsby was quick to respond, chasing after the vermin without second thoughts.

After the outrageous feat, we ensured his superb behavior was rewarded by feeding him numerous treats.
Good job Gatsby!

Rainy day company

Living in Florida, you would think I would get used to storms.
Not quite.
When I heard about hurricane Irene, I started to quiver. The fact that it's geared toward the Carolina's didn't comfort me.

Yet having Gatsby as company made me feel at ease. I was glad to have my furry companion by my side during the cold, wet, rainy weather. Although I spent my time reading and catching up on Happy Endings and Modern Family, I didn't feel so alone.

It's amazing how pets can fill you with joy when you feel so empty. Today wasn't one of the best of days, but Gatsby was there when I needed him most. And that makes me smile.

Gatsby's on vacation. I'm stuck with my brother!

It's been over a week since I've seen Gatsby.
Since it's our last week before school, he drove back home with Rachel.

On Thursday, I drove home to be with my family as well. So while Gatsby is home entertaining Rachel, I've been watching my brother Adam's magic. I know this doesn't relate to our crazy cat Gatsby, but maybe your own pets will enjoy the show!

I'm also planning on posting cute kitten pictures and videos from throughout the week. So please check by later!

How to make new friends- Gatsby style.

Jealous cat is jealous.

Before I discuss Gatsby's recent antics, I need to provide some background:

Despite 21 years of having a pet-free household, my mom finally decided to adopt kittens.
A family friend found a stray kitten a few weeks ago and was bottle-feeding it to health.
After falling in love with Gatsby (who wouldn't?), my mom agreed to give the kitten a home.
Little did she know, the friend found another stray a week later. When my mom went to pick up her new kitten, she couldn't resist adopting both! We now have two new additions to our family- Coco and Matisse.

Traveling home this weekend meant Rachel, Gatsby, and I would get to meet the babies for the first time.
We weren't sure how Gatsby would react when he met the two.

A few minutes after Gatsby was placed down, he made a sound we've never heard before.
At first we questioned it. Then it was obvious- he was hissing at them!

Were we giving the kittens too much attention?
I'm not sure- but I have a hunch that Gatsby is one jealous kitty!
